Celebrity chef Neven Maguire launches new cookery competition

First 1,000 Days Ambassador, celebrity chef and Dad Neven Maguire has called on the parents of Ireland to submit their very own tried and tested recipes for the First 1,000 Days Parents Recipe Competition.

The competition is in search of the best recipes that are suitable during the first 1,000 days of life which includes pregnancy, breastfeeding, weaning and toddlerhood right up to two years of age.

A growing body of research has shown that the First 1,000 Days of Life are a critical window of opportunity to influence the future health and wellbeing of an individual.

Recipes can be submitted for any First 1,000 Days stage and will be judged by dietitians from Danone Early Life Nutrition who are behind the First 1,000 Days movement, which was launched in June 2013.

In total, six winners will be announced throughout the year, with each winner getting an opportunity to attend Neven’s new cookery school in Blacklion, Co Cavan at the end of the year for a ‘Cooking for Friends and Family’ style full day class where they will learn to perfect their skills in the kitchen.

Recipes will also be featured in the First 1000 Days recipe book as well as available to download online at www.first1000days.ie.

Speaking about the competition Neven said,

“I want mums-to-be and new parents to realise that getting the nutritional balance right during the First 1,000 Days of Life – from pregnancy right up to two years of life really doesn’t have to be difficult. While the recipes I create in the restaurant are complex, the dishes I cook at home for the twins are simple, healthy and delicious. Anyone can do it!”

Michelle Gray, Dietitian at Danone Early Life Nutrition and one of the judges of the competition said:

“The First 1,000 Days movement was launched to help drive awareness of the growing body of research showing that the nutrition that a baby receives in the First 1000 Days of their life will help to determine their health, cognitive abilities and physical development for the rest of their lives, while offering mums-to-be and new parents with accessible tools and tips to achieve this.”

“Now it’s time for the parents of Ireland to inspire one another by demonstrating that cooking at home can be both fun and nutritious! We’d encourage anyone with a suitable recipe for the First 1,000 Days of life to go to www.first1000days.ie and submit their recipes now.”

Neven Magurie will be hosting cookery demonstrations at Ireland’s First 1000 Days Baby Show in Dublin on the 6th & 7th September.

Tickets to the event are available through Ticketmaster .
